WhatsApp Opens Username Reservations Ahead of Global Rollout Under New Head Kunal Shah

WhatsApp has opened global reservations for unique usernames, allowing users to connect without revealing their phone numbers.

The platform introduced an optional four-digit "username key" to prevent spam and give users absolute control over inbound messages.

Creators and businesses can reserve the exact handles they already use on Meta's other platforms, like Instagram and Facebook.

The rollout coincides with CRED founder Kunal Shah taking over as global head of WhatsApp, following Meta's $900 million investment in his fintech firm.
