Sunil Bharti Mittal will step down as Non-Executive Chairman of Airtel Payments Bank and leave the board on 30 September 2026, after a decade in the role.
Shabnam Sinha, currently an independent director, takes over as Chairperson for three years from 1 October. Board appointment and RBI approval are already complete.
Sinha chairs the bank's fraud monitoring committee and sits on its risk and IT committees, a governance profile rather than an operating one.
This is Mittal's second group chairmanship handover in six months, following his announcement in March that he would retire as Airtel Africa chairman.
