Adani Puts ₹2 Crore Into Durga Puja, Aimed at the Artists Rather Than the Banners

Sabyasachi Chandra

Adani Group is committing ₹2 crore to Kolkata's Durga Puja, with ₹25 lakh each for eight committees selected on their themes, pandals and idol artistry. Nominations close on 25 September.

The group is also planning a Kolkata Durga Puja Preview Tour from 10 to 12 October, coordinated with the state Information and Cultural Affairs Department.

The money is directed at theme makers, pandal creators and idol artists rather than at sponsorship visibility, which is the unusual part of the model.

Pandals are temporary. Months of design, fabrication and labour produce structures dismantled within days, which is precisely why the work is difficult to fund and easy to overlook.

₹2 crore reaches a small fraction of Bengal's committees. Selection, what the grants enable and whether the support recurs will decide whether it is patronage or a single season's presence.
